Sonan Bunkers Secures Significant Funding to Propel Global Expansion

7/29/2024

Since our inception in 2014, Sonan Bunkers has been committed to providing top-notch fuel and energy solutions for the global shipping industry. We are proud to share that HSBC UK has extended their support through a £50 million Global Trade Solutions funding package. This package includes a crucial £20 million uplift in Receivables Finance, designed to unlock working capital and bolster our growth initiatives.

Our recent expansion includes the hiring of four Senior Traders, whose expertise has broadened our client base and significantly increased our sales forecasts for 2024 and 2025. This new funding will ensure that we can efficiently manage the elevated sales volume and sustain our growth momentum.

With seasoned traders in our Scandinavian offices and a newly appointed manager in Dubai, we are well-positioned to drive our global growth strategy. We are also planning to replicate our successful Rotterdam bunker barge model by establishing strategic refueling stations in the Mediterranean, catering to both new and existing clients.

Graham Furse, CEO of Sonan Bunkers, expressed his enthusiasm: “During this phase of immense growth, we’re pleased to have been able to increase our funding and corporate banking relationship with HSBC UK. The shipping sector is committed to reducing carbon intensity and our dedicated HSBC team demonstrated a deep understanding of our business, requirements, and carbon-compensated fuel offering, making them the ideal banking partner to support our working capital cycle and help us realise our growth ambitions.”

Andrew Noble, Corporate Banking Relationship Director at HSBC UK, added: “HSBC has a global footprint that provides businesses with an expansive network of trade expertise, and we’re pleased to have been able to support the business as it ventures into its next phase of growth.”

Founded in 2014, Sonan Bunkers now operates in eight jurisdictions, including London, Athens, Rotterdam, Oslo, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, Dubai, and Copenhagen. This funding boost from HSBC UK marks a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering exceptional service and sustainable growth across the globe.
